Evidently, Yankees' General Manager Brian Cashman still has some sway with George Steinbrenner — and managed to save Joe Torre from being fired as the team's manager.
Multiple media reports had Torre fired — with sources likely from the Boss' inner circle of Tampa advisers — but then word began to trickle out Monday that Torre might be kept on. Those reports were confirmed by a team statement today.
Even with Torre's return, it is likely that the coaching staff and the roster will be changed a great deal this offseason, with Steinbrenner impatient to fiel a championship team. It would be very surprising to see Alex Rodriquez on the team's opening day roster, and the team will need to overhaul its pitching staff.—MM
