After the Mets' 5-0 loss Saturday night, feel free to panic.
Because, to be honest, it doesn't look like sunny skies. And you can thank your Al Roker for it, too, Mets' fans.
The worst-vase scenario of Tom Glavine pitching on short rest with a burned out bullpen is now fairly (or not fairly, actually) remote. Why? It's going to pour in St. Louis, starting tonight, around the sixth inning and continue with heavy rain into late tomorrow night, which means even if Perez gets shelled and the bullpen nuked, there will be a day of rest, probably.
And consider this, Mets' fans: Perez pitches like he has the last few outings and keeps the Mets in the game through five innings — there's a rested bullpen and the prospect of rain and a day off Monday. If the Mets can somehow steal this game tonight, the rains come on Monday — suddenly, they just might find themselves with a chance to head home to Shea with a 3-2 lead.
Maybe.
And if that doesn't brighten your day, it's possible that we've seen the last of Steve Trachsel in a Mets' uniform.
So, it's all good, you know?—MM
