Pedro and so on

Posted Thursday, September 28, 2006

Pedro Martinez is having another crisis of faith — in himself. And while the Mets have managed to win without him — you have to wonder whether this leaves the team in very uncertain waters.

You worry about a team getting pounded night after night — clinching be damned — with only a few days left to go before the playoffs start. I assumed a couple of week ago, that my preseason pick of 94 wins would be easily exceeded. Now…95 looks a bit like a stretch.

Say goodbye to Heath Bell…he was sent packing last night, and likely doesn’t fit into the team’s long-term plans. Why? I just don’t know. For the most part, he’s done the job — bounced back and forth between the big leagues and AAA and put up with a lot of crap. He is one of the good guys in the game, and I have little doubt that he will pitch in the Majors for someone in 2007.

Because Word Press…is Word Press…it won’t allow any comments. Sure, it’s set to do so….but you know, that would be too easy. So I’m evaluating using a new content system (again). Yeah, I could bring back the old NYBC Big Medium site — but that makes it a commitment to write a lot of stuff.

Meanwhile, if you want to comment on any of this, use the forums at www.ihateitall.com, which has Mets and Yankees’ forums. Of course, you also can discuss abortion, the fall TV season and the Iraq War.—MM
